Don and Jane Shumka have actively supported Emily Carr University since 1995 – from scholarships to speaker series to special initiatives – but their involvement with the school began much earlier. In 1987, Don joined the Emily Carr Board of Governors, where he served as Chair for a number of years. His role as a volunteer and ambassador for Emily Carr extends to his current roles as member of the Campaign Cabinet and Chair of the Foundation Board.

Don serves as Managing Director and President of Walden Management Ltd., and has over 40 years’ experience in financial and management roles, and has a number of active Board Directorships. He graduated from the University of British Columbia in 1964 with a B.A. in Economics and in 1966 he graduated with an MBA from Harvard University.

Aside from his commitment to Emily Carr, Don has long been a passionate leader in the not-for-profit sector. His past involvements include Ballet BC, the Vancouver Public Library, and Past Chair for the BC Arts Council.
