Case for Support

THE BIG IDEA Capital Campaign has three strategic priorities:

1Building our physical campus at Great Northern Way
  • A new campus built to the highest standards with design features unique to the mandate of the university – a building that embodies design excellence and promotes an integrated and comprehensive approach to the goals of the university;
  • A landmark environment worthy of our desired reputation as one of the top global schools for its undergraduate and graduate programs in Media Arts, Design and Visual Arts;
  • A forward-thinking infrastructure wired for “futurity” – anticipating the evolution of studio teaching and new technologies, anticipating new ways of learning on and off–campus, anticipating increasingly agile methods of learning including part-time, on–line, residential and low residency.
2Enhancing student access
  • A destination for lifelong education in art, design and media with increased access and resources so talented creators, regardless of their financial means, are given the tools and critical knowledge they need to become engaged citizens and drivers of the creative economy;
  • A place of excellence in teaching and learning with dynamic facilities and curriculum – a place that responds to student demands and the evolving conditions of knowledge production, industry innovation and technological change.
  • A great place to be with inspiring living, eating, gathering, socializing, presentation, studying and resting spaces. An inviting and supportive physical space that attracts the best students locally and from around the globe.
3Empowering our culture of research and sociality
  • A multi–disciplinary environment where learners, researchers, community members and industry partners converge to create – to problem-solve together, using a project-oriented curriculum where students hone their artistic and professional practices with real life experiences and responsibilities, where our institution contributes to all industries and sectors while growing the economy and creative industries.
  • Emily Carr students and faculty participate in collaborative projects with private, public and community partners as part of research, class projects or through directed studies.
