Michael Audain donates $5 million to Emily Carr University
It is with great pleasure that we announce a transformational gift of $5-million from BC arts philanthropist Michael Audain and his family foundation, the Audain Foundation for Visual Arts. This is the single largest individual donation the University has received and will be a cornerstone for the new Emily Carr Great Northern Way Campus.
The donation will create the Audain School of Visual Arts – an enhanced visual arts learning environment offering a studio-based education reflective of the diversity and complexity of contemporary art. The School will encompass the existing Faculty of Visual Art + Material Practice which houses Painting, Ceramics, Print Media, Illustration, Photography, Sculpture and Drawing. “Vancouver stands at the gateway of an important transition from being a natural resource-based town to a world-class city based on the creative economy,” he said. “And it will be developments such as the new Great Northern Way Campus that will pave the way for this to happen.” – Michael Audain
